Deer to Dream

16 x 20

Finished version of Deer to Dream

The story

This painting goes all the way back to May 2020! I originally taught it to a group of students at Pueblo Community College.

At some point, I gave it a plaid background, which I actually still really liked. But six years later, I was ready to try something completely different!

Believe it or not, the inspiration came from a preschool art class! Earlier that day, I’d watched the students use tape to create spiderwebs on their canvases, and I thought... why not try something similar?

I’d never experimented with this technique before, but I wanted to give this painting a colorful, stained glass makeover.

How it came together

With a little tape, lots of color, and a few unexpected details, this old deer painting became something completely different!

I added a galaxy inspired deer, metallic accents, and even snuck a little number five into the design.

This one took about three hours, making it one of my quickest rescues yet. And honestly, I think my brain needed something a little more relaxed after the previous four!
